Vidyartha edge out Rajans in thriller

Vidyartha College prevailed to edge out Rajans 29/22 in their rugby encounter at the Bogambara Stadium last weekend.

Rusith Thamodya was outstanding contributing 19 points for the winners. He put over 5 penalties and 2 try conversion for the winners. Meanwhile Rajans too received a bonus point though losing out due to their 4 tries scored in this encounter. 

The match was full of Yellow cards with Vidyartha receiving 2 while Rajans too had their share with 3 of them.

Vidyartha put over three early penalties with Rajans replying through a converted try by Charuka Jayawardena.

Rajans scored through Akila Jayasinghe try and on stroke of half time Thamodya put over his 4th penalty to level the scores.

After the turn around Udeesha Ratnayake touched down for Vidyartha to take the lead 19/12. Then Rajans scored through Nimesha Peiris try to cut the deficit to two points 19/17.

Rajans who never gave up replied with a superb try by Isuru Bandara and a try for Thamodya’s 5th penalty levelled the scores at 22 apiece. With the game running in to its last 5 minutes Deshan Balasuriya touched down the winning try. Thamodya added the extra 2 points. Referee was Gihan Yatawara.
