Young 14 year-old golfer Vinuda Weerasinghe, stamped his class at the 3rd annual Shangri-La Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa Boxing Day Charity Golf event, which took place at their hotel course in Hambantota recently.
Vinuda won the double when he accounted for the ‘Nearest to the Pin’ award. Last year’s winner Ravi Liyanage, won the ‘Longest Drive’ plus the special prize for his initial handicap, as the main tournament is a gross tournament. Anuda Weerasinghe, brother of Vinuda, did not return home empty handed when he accounted for the Tomb Flag.
This tournament, first held in 2018 and conducted for the last three years straight, has only grown in popularity with the number of participants increasing each year.
Proceeds from this tournament went towards the Smile Lanka Children’s Home in Hambantota that supports the education and nutrition of less privileged children. Funds collected from this Boxing Day Charity Golf Tournament too went towards the purchase of books and stationery for the students of Smile Lanka.
Shangri-La Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa General Manager Moshi Perera, speaking to Daily FT said: “I would like to thank all the participants for making our third annual Boxing Day Charity Golf tournament a great success – this event adds great color to our festivities. This season of giving, we also thank our golfers whose kind generosity toward this charity golf tournament will support the purchase of books and stationery for the Smile Lanka Children’s Home, Hambantota.”
