Viren Botheju driving a Mitsubishi Evolution 9 clocked 31.359 seconds to establish the fastest time at the 28th edition of the Eliyakanda hill climb on Sunday. 

Racing ace Ashan Silva who holds the track record of 31.260 seconds had entered the event but did not compete on Sunday. Isuru Maduranga riding a Yamaha YZ 250F was the fastest on two wheels with a timing of 33.512 seconds.

Fifteen motor car events and fifteen motorcycle events were worked off at Eliyakanda on Sunday. Sangeeth Suriyage who holds the track record of 33.439 seconds for motorcycles won the SLS cars 3500cc race for B licence holders with a timing of 35.101 seconds as well as the Group SM Super Motard motorcycles over 250cc up to 450cc 4T event with a timing of 35.095 seconds Rajitha Uluwita and Zaakir Wahab won two motor car events each while Nipun Dilanka and Supun Suraj won two motorcycle events each.

State Minister for Investment Promotion Dilum Amunugama was placed second in the SLS cars up to 1500cc event which was won by Zaakir Wahab.

The 28th edition of the Eliyakanda hill climb organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) was ably supported by the Young Southern Motor Sports Club (YSMSC) in the first event of the National Racing Championship conducted by Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), motor racing’s governing body in Sri Lanka.

The event was sponsored by Ceylon Strategic Research Institute (CSRI), SLT Mobitel, Freelan Industries, Fintrex Finance, Harishchandra Mills, Wurth, Totachchi and Tudo.lk.
