Former Isipathana, CR&FC, Navy SC, Kandy SC and Sri Lanka Sevens player Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, who assaulted assistant referee Mohamed Ashraff during the Mercantile Sevens Rugby Sevens, was slapped with a two-year ban by the Interim Disciplinary Committee appointed by Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) headed by SSP Ibrahim Hameed.
Vishwamithra, who was a very good player, represented Access at the Mercantile Rugby Sevens this year. Jayasinghe, who will be out of action till 2019, is likely to appeal his case through Kandy SC. Earlier in 2007, during a school match between Trinity and Kingswood, referee Pradeep Fernando was assaulted by Chamara Vithanage (Kingswood) who later played for Kandy SC. Trainer Dinesh Kumara was also banned for one year.
