Kandy SC will kick off round two high on confidence as they face last-placed Police, who urgently need a revamp if they are to give a good account of themselves.
This encounter will begin at 3.45 p.m. at Nittawela tomorrow.
Coached by Shamly Nawas, the fulltime policemen are yet to find their feet. Kandy on the other hand looks a far superior outfit and at home at Nittawela they have been undefeated for a couple of years. At present the upcountry club has a healthy lead of 11 points with their closest rival being Havelocks who are on 29 points at present.
Led by Gayan Weeraratne and ably supported by his younger brother, Roshan Weeraratne, along with Dhanushka Ranjan, Richard Dharmapala, Nigel Ratwatte, Anurudha Wilwara and Fazil Marija, their three-quarter line is untouchable.
Ranjan, who missed the last two games due to injury, has fully recovered and will be taking the field against Police. Their forwards who stood up for the big occasion were thoroughly tested during the last two games against Havelocks and Navy. Yakoob Ali, Shehan Pathirana and Sayuru Anthony led the rest in the forwards department.
Kandy is fortunate to have their former Rugby Consultant Johan Taylor, who is in Kandy this month, looking after the outfit for the last two weeks at training. Kandy is favoured to continue their winning streak with an easy bonus point win at home. The game was refereed by Ajith Kumara.
