The annual Wesley College Rugby ‘1st XV Jersey Presentation’ ceremony was recently held at the College premises, marking the significant juncture of handing over the rugby jerseys to the senior squad.

Honorary chief guests, the school’s administration, old boys of college and parents of the squad attended this significant occasion.

While most rugby tournaments and championships were left to be rescheduled over the past two years due to the unfortunate events of the COVID-19 pandemic followed by the economic crisis, the team has exerted their efforts into long hours of practice and training, to achieve their absolute best for the upcoming 2022 season.

Captain of this year’s team, Tharusha Jayaweera declared: “We are grateful to have celebrated this event to kick start the season. The team is thrilled for the upcoming matches, and we hope to deliver and make the school and everyone proud right throughout.”

With a proud history of over 148 years, Wesley College Rugby dates back to 1956. Since then, the sport of rugby has grown in leaps and bounds with their most significant milestone being crowned the President’s Trophy Champions in 2013.

Wesley College Colombo will be celebrating its 150th year in 2024.
