Wesley College ended all doubts with their supporters when they put up a magnificent performance when they beat Dharmaraja College by a 31/12 win in their Dialog Under 19 Inter Schools League 2022 encounter which concluded at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium last weekend.

At the short breather winners led 19/5.

The game Wesley won was a scrappy affair early in the first half but Wesley came back to top gear after about 15 minutes of play. Meanwhile, Rajans could not capitalise on their momentum of play, while also with possession they could not convert in to points making a number of handling errors.

Wesley drew first blood in the eighth minute of the game through Tharusha Jayaweera who dashed down the wing to score their first try. Ten minutes later, Nithila Rodrigo touched down their second try which was converted by Shaveen Jayawardena. Hafiz Thabeeth powered his way for Wesley College third try which was goaled by Jayawardena. On stroke of half time Rajans full back, Saumya Wijesiri went over their first try.

After the turn around Nithila Rodrigo and Tharusha Jayaweera scored their second tries in the game. One of the conversions was taken successfully by Shane Hopewood. Rajans scored their consultation try through their Co Captain Thenuka Wickremasinghe.

Wesley will move alongside Isipathana to Round 2 from their group. Meanwhile, Royal and either Joes or Trinity will join from the other two teams. The results between Joes and Antonians will decide the Trinitians fate. In case the game ends in a draw or favouring Antonians, then the Lions will move forward for Round 2 or it will be the Joes.

Science shock for Peter’s

  • Science 12 points
  • St. Peter’s 10 points

Science College ended the Schools rugby season on a high note when they edged out the Petrites 12/10 at Ratmalana last weekend.

At the short breather the lads from Bambalapitiya led 10/5.

Peterites displayed good rugby in the initial half scoring two tries through Vishenka Silva but coming in to the latter half, they were lethargic and continuous mistakes cost them the game. They had a Yellow Card offence on their second rower, Charupa Cooray which gave the Science lads a chance to creep through in to the game. Kaluarachchi scored the first try for Mount Lavinia lads. After the turn around, Science dominated the game taking full control of the situation. Petrites lost two more players for Yellow Card offence and taking advantage of the situation, Science scored a converted try through S. Aloka. Kaveesha added the extra two points. During the last five minutes of the game, Science too had their worries through two Yellow Cards but St. Peter’s failed to cut through the defence to touch down.
