St. Joseph’s College and Wesley College will battle it out for pride in their last league encounter for 2022 when they lock horns at the Havelock Park today.
Kick-off is scheduled at 4.15 p.m.
Wesley had a good season beating Dharmaraja (31/12), Vidyartha (38/7), Science (38/10) while ending on equal terms against St. Peter’s (17/17) and lost out to Isipathana (0/10). In the second round they went down to Royal 21/16. The Double Blues are led by Tharusha Jayaweera with some outstanding players such as Muralidaran, Jayawardena and Gammanpilla in their starting line-up.
Meanwhile, Joes are led by Teran Karunanayake. They beat Kingswood 34/3, S. Thomas 30/28, Trinity 20/15, St. Antony’s 35/20 and lost out to Royal 3/17 and Isipathana 13/16. They are coached by Nilfer Ibrahim who is also the National Men’s Head Coach.
A close battle is expected with Wesley holding slight edge over their opponents due to Joes hit by injury worries missing out will be three of their senior players including their crack full back Isuru Kanchana.
Former Vidyartha player and one of the good reader of the game Raveen Alexander will officiate the game as the referee.
