West Indies women cricketers arrive for six-match tour of Sri Lanka

The 15-player West Indies Women’s cricket team led by ‘ICC Player of the Month’ for April winner Hayley Matthews arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday to play a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka Women.

Shemaine Campbelle will serve as Matthews’ deputy.

The West Indies contingent will take part in a seven-day camp in Colombo to prepare for the tour which commences at Galle with the three ODI matches that forms part of the ICC Women’s Championship – wherein the top five teams, alongside hosts, India, will directly qualify for the Cricket World Cup in 2025. West Indies are currently placed seventh on the table and just below them are Sri Lanka in eighth with equal points with net run-rate separating them.

It will be followed by the three-match T20I series which will take place in Hambantota.
