Former Sri Lanka national diving team Captain Chanaka Wickremesinghe won three individual gold medals at the Pan Pacific Masters Games 2018, held in Gold Coast, last month in the masters’ category.

Wickremesinghe’s achievement marks the first time where a single Sri Lankan won the highest number of gold medals in an event held at the international level.

Wickremesinghe represented Sri Lanka solo among 12 nations, including Australia, in the 30-35 years masters’ age group. His gold medals were won for the 1m springboard, 3m springboard, and platform events, bringing pride to the country.

Wickremesinghe collected 223.10 points in the 1m event, 252.75 in the 3m event, and 183.60 in the platform event.

Wickremesinghe, a former Royalist and the Sri Lankan diving coach, had represented the country in two World Diving Championships (1999 and 2002), held in Czech Republic and Canada, respectively.

He is the Head Coach of Royal College diving team at present, and was the 2002 Royal Crown winner and an Asian Bronze medallist at the Asian Diving Championship in Chinese Taipei in 2000. He was also the Coach for the 21st Commonwealth Games held this year at Gold Coast.
