Wijemanne and Kurera win double crowns at SSC Open

Thehan Wijemanne of Royal College and Anjalika Kurera of Ava Maria Convent, Negombo emerged Men’s and Women’s Open Champions at the First Capital SSC Open Tennis Championships which took place at the SSC courts recently.

Wijemanne won in straight sets over Kiran Viravanathan, 7/6, 6/1 in the final. 

In the first set Wijemanne had a close call which ended in a tie breaker, 7/6. While the second set was won comfortably 6/1 and with that, the title.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s Open Final, Anjalika Kurera had an easy two set win over Janani Manamperi at 6/1, 6/3.

Both players, Thehan and Anjalika won the title without losing a set throughout the tournament. Earlier, Wijemanne partnered with Chathurya Nilaweera clinched the Men’s Open Doubles, while Kurera partnered with Neyara Weerawansa won the Women’s Doubles event.
