Standard Chartered’s five-a-side futsal tournament, the SC Trophy 2018 will kick off on tomorrow at the Racecourse Grounds, Colombo 7.
The winners of the tournament will receive an all-expense paid trip to the United Kingdom to watch the Liverpool Football Club in action at a Premier League match played at the Reds’ iconic Anfield Stadium. The experience will include many surprises, including a tour of the Anfield Stadium. Standard Chartered last year renewed their sponsorship with the Liverpool Football Club, marking their eighth year as partners.
Sri Lankan football enthusiasts will witness the SC Trophy for the third year with EXPO Lanka Group winning the tournament in 2015 and WNS Global Services being crowned the winners of 2016.
Twelve client teams representing the commercial and global banking business will compete and vie to be named champion at the SC Trophy 2018.
“This is the third time Standard Chartered has organised this tournament and we have seen the interest grow over the years. We are glad to have many of our clients nominating teams to participate in this event. Standard Chartered is always committed to offering the best experiences to our clients, and initiatives such as this is a testament of the strength of our network. This opportunity is made possible by the longstanding global sponsorship agreement between Standard Chartered and the Liverpool Football Club. The continued trust that is placed on us only further contributes to the growth and development of our operations in Sri Lanka,” said Commercial Banking, Sri Lanka Head Dushan Casie Chetty.
Participating client teams include Hirdaramani International Exports Ltd., JAT Holdings, DBS Logistics Ltd., David Pieris Motor Company, Digital Mobility Solutions Lanka Ltd., Brandix Group, Hemas Maritime Ltd., Courtaulds Clothing Lanka Ltd., Dialog Axiata PLC, and MAS Kreeda Synergy. The 12 teams will be split into four groups of three and play the first round in a round robin format. The winners of each group will then proceed to play in the semi-finals and the final thereafter.
