In a rain-affected 17-over ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup match at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Bangladesh secured a 28-run victory over Sri Lanka in their opening fixture.
Bangladesh posted 122-9 and delivered a strong bowling performance to limit Sri Lanka to 94-8. Bangladesh’s innings was headlined by Sadia Akter’s explosive 31 off 25 balls that included three sixes. Support came through Afia Ashima (25) and Sumaiya Akter (24), with a crucial 49-run partnership proving decisive in the shortened game.
Sri Lanka’s Rashmika Sewwandi claimed 4/23, but their chase struggled despite Sanjana Kavindi’s 21 and Sewwandi’s 20. Player of the Match Nishita Akter Nishi (2/16) and Sumaiya Akter (3/12) bowled expertly under pressure to secure Bangladesh’s victory. Nishita Akter especially turned the game with her miserly spell, proving herself on the big moments.
Sri Lanka complete their Group B matches with a win and a loss. Despite their loss to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka will qualify to play in the next round of the tournament – the Super Four.
Bangladesh play their final group game against Malaysia today.
