YMCA Moratuwa conducts 9th Open Junior Badminton Championship

Champions, Runners-up and Semi-Finalists with the Chief Guest M.R. Jumar and other distinguished guests 

 

The ninth Open Badminton tournament for youngsters under 11 and 13 was organised and conducted successfully by the YMCA Moratuwa at its indoor sports complex on 2, 3 and 4 March, said its Sports Committee Chairman J.S.A. Fernando. 

This tournament which was organised by the Moratuwa YMCA attracted entries from nearly 300 up and coming youngsters who exhibited a high standard of play. 

The Chief Guest at the Finals and the Presentation ceremony was R.M. Jumar – former President of Western Province Badminton Association. Many distinguished guests and Directors of Moratuwa Y together with parents and well-wishers of players attended this tourney which has become a popular event in the YMCA’s annual calendar. 

Obliging services of Chandana Nilantha (International Umpire) were available throughout this tournament. Winners and runners up received valuable mementos, gifts, medals and certificates. 

Among the main sponsors of the tournament were Exa-Bind, Alphalex Sports Shop, Hameedias, Puwakaramba Agencies Ltd., HNB Prime Grameen Micro Finance, Commercial Bank Moratuwa, R.M. Jumar and Prof. Ranjith De Silva. Fernando appreciated the services of the General Secretary and the staff of YMCA Moratuwa towards the success of this tournament.

Under 11 – Boys

Winner – K.H. Budhi Shenal

Runner up – Sehas Perera

Under 11 – Girls

Winner – Sithuli Ranasingha

Runner up – Senudi Amarasingha

Under 13 – Boys

Winner – Sehandu Thewmika

Runner up – M.D. Achinthya Imeshak 

Under 13 Girls

Winner – Sithumdi Seneviratne 

Runner up – Dinumi Sehansa Cordon
