Former S. Thomas’ College, Sri Lanka Sevens and 15s skipper Yoshitha Rajapaksa is tipped to lead the CH&FC rugby outfit for the 2018/2019 club rugby season which will kick off in November.

According to reliable sources, his appointment will be made in the near future. Rajapaksa played for the Thomian outfit in 2005 and 2006, leading the team in his last year. Three years later he was appointed captain of the Navy Sports Club. In 2012 he was appointed the national 15s skipper at the Asian Rugby Division 1 tournament which took place in the Philippines.

Under his leadership Navy emerged as the runners-up to Kandy in both the League and Clifford Cup for a number of consecutive years.

Rajapaksa was more passionate about the shorter version of the game, leading the national outfit to a bowl win at the 2011 Borneo Sevens. He also represented the national Sevens teams in Hong Kong, South Korea and at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In 2014 he was appointed the Coach of the Ananda College rugby outfit along with Sumedha Malewana and later on helped out his younger brother Rohitha with coaching duties at Science College. After a short layoff he restarted his playing career for a revamped CH&FC under his younger brother Rohitha.
