Sri Lanka’s Under-17 girls’ side will participate in the 12-team rugby qualification event in the UAE for the Youth Olympics on 29 and 30 December.
The winner will book a berth at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018.
Two tournaments took place in Colombo and Ruwanwella to select players for this event. The girls, who are under the watchful eyes of Peter Wood and Sudath Sampath, will depart the island on 28 November.
The squad comprises of Sendanayake Arachchilage Uresha Sachinthi, Pallanda Dewage Nirasha Samanthika Dissanayake, G A Hashani Madushika, Pathirana Dissanayakelage Supidhi Lakshani Dileesha, Gonapinuwala Vithanage Chamodhya Madumali, Kasthuri Arachchige Madushani Araliya, Delpa Godage Tharusi Dilsara, Weerakkody Mudiyanselage Kasakara Gedhara Sachini Bhagya Weerakkody, Happan Weerage Kalani Mekala Nadeeshani, Kira Dewayalage Sachinthani Sadanika Ariyawansha, Kalu Marakkalage Parami Wasanthi Maristela Fernando and Thibbatuwwa Gamage Umayangana Thathsarani
Group A - Japan, India and Laos, Group B - Kazakhstan, Iran and the UAE, Group C - Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and the Philippines and Group D - China, Thailand and Malaysia.
