The Abu Dhabi Harlequins became the West Asia Club Champions following the conclusion of the Asia Rugby Western Clubs Champions League (ARWCCL) 2016 in UAE.
The Abu Dhabi Harlequins, last year’s runners-up the Dubai Exiles and the Kandy Sports Club, last year’s Sri Lankan Club champions, locked horns in the round robin competition.
The Abu Dhabi Harlequins and Dubai Exiles drew 23-23 in their group encounter. The Harlequins continued their good form when they outclassed Kandy 56-14 and finished on top of the group. The Dubai Exiles went into the final match of the tournament knowing exactly how many points they needed to score. They proceeded to trounce Kandy 29-9.
ARWCCL is the regional association’s pinnacle, performance level cross border club competition and comprises the winner and runner-up of the previous season’s West Asia Championship (WAC) plus the previous season’s champion clubs from Sri Lanka, who play for the title of strongest club in the western half of Asia.
