Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 in their second match under Group ‘B’ in the ongoing 8th SAFF Championship 2013 on Wednesday. The match was held at Halchowk Ground in the capital.
Though Sri Lanka led the match through a goal from Mohamed Fazal in 36th minute of the first half, Afghanistan netted three goals in the second half to pull the odds on their side.
Afghanistan’s Mohamad Rafi scored an equaliser in the 62nd minute while Haroon Fakruddin doubled the tally in the 76th minute and Hasmatullah added another in the 86th minute.
This is Afghanistan’s second straight win in the regional championship.
The team had first played against Bhutan, beating them with a score of 3-0. Sri Lanka had suffered humiliating 10-0 defeat against Maldives.
Bhutan and Maldives are scheduled to meet on each other in another match of the day under Group ‘B’ at Dasharath Stadium today evening. nepalnews.com
