The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the old Antonians Cricket Wing will be held on Saturday the 12 November 2011 at the Kandy Club at 6.30 p.m. The above Wing was inaugurated in 2000 and its first AGM held in that year, Ranjith Peiris is unanimously appointed as its first President.
The above institution has produced several cricketers of note, starting with Jack Anderson, who was undoubtedly a legend on his own. However, due to the lack of Ceylon cricket at that time, he could never play for his country. It was after that St. Anthony’s College, Kandy produced cricketers of note starting with A.C.M. Lafir, Mahesh Gunathilake and several others who have done proud to the school. Muttiah Muralidaran, Ruwan Kalpage, and Piyal Wijetunge - The spin wizards of Sri Lanka cricket in that era.
However, after that period the school cricket standards did not match up to the requirements of knowledgeable and senior ex - cricketers of the school and clubs. Hence, it was decided that another Wing was necessary in order to assist, mainly cricket and also other sports that help boys to develop themselves to be top class sportsmen, during their schooling career.
Today the Old Antonians Cricket Wing is assisted by the old boys. We see an absolute necessity to enhance the working of this cricket wing to help us, with coaches and all other expenses involved in coaching clinics for the young developing sportsmen of the school. Hence, we expect every sport lover to come forward with all their suggestions and meet us at the AGM in Kandy this year.
