Kotahena St. Benedict’s and Walala Ratnayake Central emerged overall champions of the boys’ and girls’ categories at the All Island Schools Relay Championship 2016 which concluded at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy during the weekend.
This event was organised after a lapse of 16 years where the last one being conducted way back in the year 2000. This colourful event saw more than 3,000 students taking part all part of the Island with more than 300 schools represented this event.
St. Benedict’s (73), Trinity (59) and Ratnayake Central (57) ended in the top three boys segment while the Girls segment was won by Ratnayake Central (91), St Joseph’s Balika, Kegalle (54) and Sir John Kothalawala MV, Kurunegala (48) end in the top three
Ratnayake Central were at the receiving end when organisers decided to scrap points of the Under 21 age category from the overall championship points table. If this was awarded to the Menikkinna School would have ended as the champions in the Boys category as well.
