Three tons in evenly balanced game, ends in favour of RevathaText and pix by P.D. De Silva
Three centuries were registered in a high scoring evenly balanced game between Bandaranayke Central College Gampaha and Revatha College Balapitiya which ended at the Training College grounds in Balapitiya last Tuesday (25). It was anybodies game till the last hour and Revatha College emerged ultimate winners by 61 runs.
On being asked to bat first the home team scored 343 runs. Opener Suresh de Silva scored 118 runs off 122 balls (15 boundaries and 3 sixes) Number four batsman Lakmal de Silva registered a quick fire 112 off 78 balls (3 boundaries and 12 sixes). Number two batsman Dilshan de Zoysa scored 55 off 65 balls with seven boundaries and a six.
Suresh and Dilshan shared a 116 run partnership off 133 balls for the second wicket while Suresh and Lakmal shared a 118 run partnership off 96 balls for the third wicket. Bhathiya Hettiarachchi captured three wickets and Rathsara Vithana captured two.
Madushan Wanniarachchi scored 164 runs off 104 balls with eleven boundaries and sixteen sixes for Bandaranyake College but the other batsmen did not impress and the visitors were bowled out for 285 runs.
Lakmal de Silva was the most successful bowler capturing three wickets for 17 runs off 9.1 overs.
With a lead of 58 runs and a minimum of 65 overs left of the game Revatha were determined to hold on to their first innings win but Rathsara Vithana 4/76, Bhathiya Hettiarachchi 3/49 and Madushan Wanniarachchi 2/20 restricted their second innings to 159 runs.
Skipper Muthumal de Silva topped the score card with 44 runs while first innings centurion Suresh de Silva scored 31 runs.
Needing a gettable 218 runs to win in a minimum of 35 overs the game was in favour of Bandaranyaike College but pace bowlers Lakmal de Silva 4/41 and Lakshan de Silva 3/55 took the game away from the visitors with six overs to spare restricting them to 156. Madushan Wanniarachchi scored 53 runs off 49 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes.
A total of 943 runs were scored and 40 wickets fell in the game while 85 boundaries and 44 sixes were registered by both teams.
