Allianz facilitates an international workshop for Paralympics

The largest insurance conglomerate in the world Allianz, through its fully owned subsidiary Allianz Lanka, organised a two day workshop to establish a strategic road map for the 2016 Rio, Paralympics. On Allianz’s invitation George Schlachtenberger, the Chief Operating Officer of International Paralympic Committee conducted the two day strategic workshop at Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama. Over 30 individuals consisting, members of the National Paralympic Committee of Sri Lanka, coaches, athletes, physiotherapists and medical practitioners participated in this interactive workshop. In October 2013, Allianz stepped in as the Partner for National Paralympic Committee of Sri Lanka to popularise the Paralympics. The aforesaid workshop was a result of the partnership. President, National Paralympic Committee, Brig. Rajitha Ampemohotti stated: “Ranaviru Sevana is the home which gave birth to Paralympic movement in Sri Lanka. We are happy Allianz have taken steps to conduct this workshop as per our working partnership announced in October 2013. All stakeholders including Allianz officials were involved in setting up the road map for 2016 Rio, Paralympics. The ultimate objective of all of us is to bring glory to the motherland.” George Schlachtenberger said: “I was amazed about the knowledge all participants of this workshop had about the game. The local committee has done a splendid job over the years, especially in athlete development. I am pleased to see the enthusiasm shown by Allianz to support this cause.” Allianz globally supports Formula 1, football, golf and the Paralympics through established sponsorship properties. In Sri Lanka, during the last six months, initiatives were taken to support Paralympics and football, in addition to the corporate social responsibility efforts through internationally acclaimed “My Finance Coach” on debt management education for school children. Allianz Lanka Chief Executive Officer Surekha Alles stated: “Allianz came forward to support the Paralympics as we truly believe sports is a powerful tool to inspire people to do unthinkable and stretch human capabilities to achieve their aspirations. Our Paralympians are a testimony of courage and inspiration. As a partner of National Paralympic Committee, Allianz will be shouldering the responsibility to create awareness of Paralympics, which is essential to popularise the game. Nothing beats word of mouth communication, the Allianz staff and sales personnel will be taking our ‘Motivation to move on, strength to move up’ message to the general public in due course, in addition to knowledge and experience sharing. We invite likeminded corporates, individuals, and societies to come forward to support our Paralympians.”
