Amãna Takaful runner up at inter-insurance cricket tournament

Amãna Takaful emerged as the runner up at the Inter-Insurance Company Six a Side Cricket Tournament played for the Hema Wijeratne Challenge Trophy organised by the SLII and held at the NCC grounds.
The tournament consisted of 15 teams and was played on a knockout basis. Leading up to the finals, Amãna Takaful beat Peoples’ Insurance by five wickets, Combined Brokers by three wickets and Allianz Insurance by four wickets.
In the final, the eventual champions Asian Alliance got the better of Amãna Takaful despite a valiant effort by them. Led by the former Thomian skipper Zakir Kanaka, the team consisted of Rumi Mohideen, Suhail Mahthoon, Dasun Maduranga, Fariz Subiyan, Ifthikar Nazeer, Irfan Ghouse, Shirula Hewavitharana and M.H.M. Shihan.
Kanaka stated: “I would like to thank the organisers of the event for taking the effort to put together a tournament of this nature. The revival of the tournament after a lapse of five years has given us the opportunity to compete and interact with those in the industry which helps strengthen our ties and relationships. I also wish to thank the management and staff of Amãna Takaful for the support given to us throughout the tournament.”
Adding to the highlight of the tournament, batsman Dasun Maduranga who scored a total of 91 runs was adjudged as the Best Batsmen of the tournament and Zakir Kanaka was adjudged as the Best Bowler of the tournament.
Incidentally, Kanaka picked up three wickets in one over which was the most outstanding bowling performance in a match.
