The Sri Lanka Sports Fishing Group (SLSFG), Sri Lanka’s leading angling body and member of the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) recently conducted its 3rd Annual West Coast Tolling Competition. This year’s installment of the competition was conducted at the Kinross Swimming and Life Saving Club, Colombo 6.
Patronised by over 40 local and international anglers, this year’s competition was a tightly-contested affair. Anglers vied for top honors across eight categories, which included Junior (under 16) and Senior (over 60) categories, and for the coveted overall Mervin Andriesz Challenge Trophy Championship.
Speaking on the event, Kiyaz Deen, President SLSFG said: “We are delighted to have been able to conduct this prestigious tournament for the third consecutive year. The SLSFG has mandated itself to rejuvenate the sport of angling in Sri Lanka, and events of this nature go a long way towards that end. We are humbled by the support received to conduct this competition; from our members, our sponsors, the Sri Lanka Navy and Coastguard, and a host of other well-wishers, and are extremely grateful to them all.”
IGFA Representative to Sri Lanka, Phillip Weinmann said: “Events such as this play a vital part towards promoting, as well as engaging with those currently involved in the sport. Bringing together likeminded individuals also allows for the opportunity to share valuable information on matters such as marine conservation, and emerging tools, techniques and trends. The IGFA fully supports and commends this effort”.
The SLSFG is fully committed to promoting ethical angling practices, and providing guidance to anyone interested in entering this sport.
