The limited over cricket encounter between Lyceum International School, Nugegoda and Lyceum International School Panadura for the Nikitha Grero Challenge Trophy, hosted by Lyceum International School Panadura this year, will be held on 1 July at De Untitled-1Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa.

This big match was initiated by Nikitha Grero last year to ensure that Lyceumers too got the experience of a big match.

The Lyceum Panadura team became the champions of the Battle of the Lyceumers during the 2016 inaugural encounter by chasing the winning score of 92 runs in just 11.5 overs for the loss of five wickets, defeating Lyceum Nugegoda’s score of 91 all out in 29 overs.

This year the Nugegoda team will be led by the versatile Dewmin De Alwis under the guidance of head coach Lal Senarathna and MIC Pathum Madhushanka, while the Panadura team will be spearheaded by Nesanda Weerasekara under the supervision of Head Coach Kapila Mahinda and MIC Rumesh Wickramasinghe.

Both teams received the opportunity of playing for the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Tournament almost one year ago and have fared well since. The Lyceum Nugegoda U-15 cricketers became Division 3 Champions while Lyceum Panadura reached the quarterfinals and the pre-quarterfinals in Division 3 in the Under-13 and Under-17 categories respectively.

In addition to this both teams have performed remarkably well in all age groups of the Inter-International Schools Cricket Tournament.

The 2017 NGC Trophy Cricket encounter will be sponsored by several esteemed organisations, with Uncle Sam’s serving as the Main Sponsor. Next Click Studio and PLANET EDUCATION - Aus Study Gateway have taken over Co-Sponsorship duties. jobAds.lk, Sri Lanka’s newest Job search portal, and Sign – Tech Advertising will join in as the Special Sponsors of the Nikitha Grero Challenge Trophy 2017.

Both teams are expected to bring their A game for this encounter as per the prediction of cricketing pundits and attendees can expect an electrifying and carnival atmosphere on the day.
