Ashan and Nadun win the day

Emerge best driver and rider at Sri Lanka Super Series 2nd Katukurunda meet The third event of the Sri Lanka Super Series 2014 Championship organised jointly by Carlton Motor Sports Club, Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) and Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers & Riders (SLARDAR) was held at Katukurunda Air Force base on 10 and 11 May with over 200 riders and drivers taking part in 24 events. As a part of the tarmac championship of the Sri Lanka Super Series, the meet was held at Katukurunda with many famous riders and drivers battling it out to increase their championship points tally. The event consisted of nine motor bike events including the hot events Supermotard up to 450cc and Modified motor cycles open over 250cc events where as cars consist of famous events like SL-H 1600, SL-S (Specials) up to 1500cc event, SL-F Formula McLarens4 EFI Carburetor events and SL-GT event. Ashan Silva returned to the track with the SL-GT event winning both races comfortably, increasing his lead in the championship, while Darin Weerasinghe and Dinesh Jayawardana battled it hard for the second and third positions. Nadun Pradeep Wijesekara bagged second place and first places respectively in his two races in the Group M Modified Motorcycles open over 250cc event, battling it out closely with famous names like Maduranga Caldera and Shrian Samuels. Ashan Silva and Nadun Pradeep Wijesekara was awarded best driver and rider awards for the meet. In other events Rohitha Rajapaksha won his pet event SL-N 1000cc event with his Nissan March and also won the Group – H Cars – Subaru Legacy Up to 2200 CC with his first appearance on the event. In Formulas, Brayan Perera, Chandima Goonarathne, Nadeera Jinasena and Susantha Gunawardana fought hard for the SL-F Formula McLarens 4 EFI event while Ayesh Bandara out of the novices who took part in their debut race on Formula McLarens 1300 carburetor event emerged winning both races in the class. The event was attended by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Marshal K.A. Gunatilake who spent time watching the races as well as talking to riders and drivers, giving them encouragement.
