Asia Asset Finance PLC is a company that boasts of a rich history that exceeds for 45 years. However, AAF has a brief history when it comes to the MCA Cricket Tournament. Being the fourth year of participation, AAF managed to change tides by emerging as Champions of the MCA G Division Tournament, beating Brandix Essentials B Team.
The tournament kicked off in the month of June with the league stage comprising of seven group matches, out of which AAF managed to win five matches whilst having lost only one match and the other ending with no result due to bad weather conditions.
AAF emerged as No. 1 in the group stage and entered the knockout stage with confidence backing them. The Pre Quarter and Quarter finals were very convincing victories for AAF as they beat HNB Assurance by nine wickets and Jetwing Travels by 40 runs. That resulted in AAF qualifying for the Semi Finals with Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka. The game saw the tides swing both ways but finally AAF managed a comprehensive victory chasing a target of 156 runs. AAF reached the target with three overs to spare and four wickets in hand.
In the Finals of the MCA G Division between AAF and Brandix B, held on 15 August, Brandix B won the toss and elected to field first and AAF scored a 165 runs within an allotted 25 overs which was below par and chasing down the target of 164 runs, Brandix managed to score only 30 runs in the first 10 overs which meant that they were already behind the eight ball. Eventually Brandix B managed only 132 runs as they were bundled out, handing a memorable and historic win for AAF.
The man of the final was Nimesh Fernando and the man of the tournament was Shashrika Pussegolla.
