The Asian qualification tournament for the Rio Olympics 2016 Rugby Sevens took place last weekend at the Hong Kong Rugby Stadium in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Ten men’s and six women’s teams locked horns for two spots.
Japan beat Hong Kong to secure their berth while Hong Kong (2), South Korea (3) and Sri Lanka (4) qualified for the 16-team event which will see more African, North and South American and European regional semifinalists locking horns for the single spot for next June. The tournament will very likely take place in Lisbon, Portugal.
While the women’s Final was won by Japan, who stand a very good chance to qualify when they team up on home soil in Tokyo at the end of the month to decide who will go to Rio in the women’s segment on aggregate in the Hong Kong and Japan leg.
