Former Trinity second-rower Udaya Balasuriya will take over the post of President at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Kandy Sports Club which will take place on 28 June, at the auditorium of the Nittawela Rugby Stadium.
Kandy, who are the defending League and Clifford Cup knockout champions, will be led by national Sevens and Fifteen-a-side Skipper Fazil Marija. They will start their training for next month’s Sevens tournament this week. Kandy is expected to field a few players who have crossed over from other clubs when the season kicks off in November this year.
The champion outfit will once again be coached by the South African Johan Taylor, who successfully led Sri Lanka to the Division I Championship for the second time. He will be assisted by former kicking sensation Nalaka Weerakody and Sean Wijesinghe, who led the side during the previous season.
