The number crunchers of the country, bankers and financiers, will take the field this Sunday, battling it out for the Governor’s Trophy in a 6-a-side cricket tournament that sees sixty six teams in the fray.

The inaugural cricket fiesta set to become the finance industry’s premier outing will be worked off at the Colts Grounds.  The tournament is organized by CRIB (Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka) with the Governor of Central Bank in attendance to give away the Trophy to the champions.

“We are extremely excited that this cricket tournament is bringing the banking and finance industries together.  Plans are afoot to make it an event not just for industry professionals but their families, too” says Mr. Gamini Karunaratne, a veteran banker and General Manager of CRIB.

Sixty one teams representing the cream of the finance world have taken the time off to practice for the challenge, he said.  The Colombo Colts Grounds will take on a festive mood with food stalls, DJ music and kids’ fun corners being organized as part of the day’s entertainment. The winning team walks away with the Governor’s Trophy which has been named after the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, as well as a handsome cash reward. The Governor himself will be present at the awards ceremony to hand over the coveted trophy to the winners, according to the organizers.

The Credit Information Bureau plays the role of mediator in the banking and finance sector, compiling all information required by borrowers and lenders and ensuring that creditworthiness is maintained in all credit transactions between the finance sector and the public.
