BBDO Lanka continues its ‘Force for Good’ campaign, this time round by being one of the key sponsors at the International Charity Golf Event that was held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club course on 1 and 2 November. Organised by members of the Royal Colombo Golf Course, the event was held in aid of the Castle Street Hospital for Women and the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children. The committee was also hoping to raise enough funds to open a medical centre for RCGC caddies and their families, as well as a computer centre to be utilised by the needy families in the areas surrounding the RCGC. Thus a raffle draw and an auction, where eight pairs of an amateur and professional golfer were auctioned to teams, were also held as part of the event. The International Charity Golf Event was a charity golf tournament with an international flavour, open to all (members and non-members) and saw over 350 people from 25 different nationalities participate in teams of four. The tournament was held under the System 36 Golf Tournament Format and Handicapping System. BBDO Lanka MD Santosh Meon said: “BBDO Lanka has been consistently, since its inception, contributing in various ways to causes that benefit the community at large. Our efforts at going green and helping the ‘Bikes for Life’ campaign are two such instances. “In this case we wanted to help the RCGC members who chose to use the game to raise funds for several noteworthy causes. We strongly endorse the use of CSR by corporate entities for the greater good of community and country.” BBDO Lanka is the Sri Lankan affiliate of the global BBDO network and soon after only its first year of operations was awarded Campaign Asia-Pacific magazine’s ‘Rest of South Asia Creative Agency of the Year 2012’ Silver. It is also the only Sri Lankan advertising agency with branch operations in Mauritius and since 2011 has been engaged in doing truly exciting work for Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB). It also does projects for the Mauritian Edendale Ltd. BBDO Lanka launched its ‘Force for Good’ initiative in 2012 by becoming the first carbon neutral advertising agency in South Asia. It also launched Asia’s first ever mechanical air purifying billboard and contributed to the ‘Bikes for Life’ initiative which provides children in the north with bikes and thus a means to get to school and not miss out on an education. This year, it also teamed up with the iconic Lankan Country Music Federation concert for charity, Country Roads, which in partnership with UNICEF, is in the process of renovating three high courts to be used only for the hearing of child abuse and other juvenile cases as well as providing training for judicial staff on how to properly interact with the children.
