BCCI awaiting Indian govt. nod to revive Indo-Pak cricket series: PCB chief

Karachi(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Ashraf has said his Indian counterpart N Srinivasan has shown a keen interest in reviving Indo-Pak cricket series.

“We held a meeting to discuss the revival of bilateral series. It was a constructive meeting as the BCCI president showed keen interest in resuming cricket ties. Srinivasan agreed to resume the series. However, he said the BCCI requires its government’s nod over the matter before finalising anything,” The Express Tribune quoted Ashraf, as saying.

Ashraf and Srinivasan had met on the sidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Dubai to discuss the modalities of the resumption of the series.

Srinivasan said the decision to revive the series was subject to the government’s approval, while Ashraf hinted at having the approval from its side.

A PCB official termed the meeting as a huge breakthrough even though uncertainty looms over the issue because it hinges on the approval of the Indian government.

“The meeting itself is a positive development. It’s because the two cricketing chiefs finally met after a long time. Initially, we failed to hold talks despite repeated attempts. But now the chances have increased. Hopefully, the Indian government will soon give the green signal as well,” he added.

Indo-Pak cricket series have been stalled since the November 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai.
