The Old Benedictine Sports Club together with its cricket wing has organised a re-union of all past cricketers who had represented the College next Sunday (2 March 2014) at the College grounds.
The re-union of all the past cricketers is to celebrate fifty years of the 1964 St. Benedict’s cricket team which was a remarkable team under the stewardship of Sunil Fernando. The team remained unbeaten and beat almost all the schools outright to complete a dream year. All the cricketers of that 1964 team are expected to be present with many of them making a special trip from their destinations overseas.
The re-union will commence with Holy Mass presided over by His Lordship Bishop of Colombo Emmanuel Fernando who is also another loyal Old Ben. A number of priests and De La Salle Brothers who are Old Boys are expected to be present.
A host of past cricketers of St. Benedicts, coaches and prefects of games have confirmed their participation. The organisers have planned to have a cricket tournament on that day and have also arranged to publish a special souvenir titled ‘What’s the Colour Green and White’ to mark this special occasion.
Arrangements are made for a gala celebration and the organising committee would like to invite all Old Bens to be a part of this re-union, where they could meet their old colleagues and classmates.
