BOC’s ‘75th Anniversary Abiman Pereagaman’ Cycle race on 23 August

Celebrating BOC’s 75 years of commitment to the Nation’s banking and financial industry, the Bank is organising BOC ‘Abhiman Peragaman’ cycle race. Cycling is considered a popular sport in Sri Lanka and there is a large number of cycling enthusiasts in the country. Cycle racing is an international-level sport which is not confined to urban areas. It is also observed that there are a large number of cycling clubs all over country which are competent to take part in international competitions. As a Bank which understands the country’s popular sports interests, BOC always makes an effort immensely to uplift the country’s sports competency as a part of its corporate social responsibility. The race will commence on 23 August at 9.30 a.m. starting in front of the BOC head office and will reach Kandy town via Kirbathgoda, Ambepussa, Alawwa, Kurunegala, Galagedara and Katugastota. The race will cover 135 kilometres in total. Over 130 licensed cyclists have registered to take part in the race. BOC Abhiman Peragaman has been organised jointly with the Sri Lanka Cycle Federation, which will be the supervisory body of the race in order to ensure that it is conducted according to international cycling rules and regulations. The media partnership for the event will be provided by Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. A live telecast from time to time will be aired on Rupavahini Channel One. The BOC wishes to welcome all sports enthusiasts to enjoy the pleasure of watching the race. Winners will be awarded attractive cash rewards and exemplary performances too will be recognised. The organising committee has decided to have the award ceremony in front of the Kandy Super Grade branch. The BOC earned global recognition as one of the top 1000 banks in the world, as listed by The Banker Magazine (UK) respectively in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The Bank claimed its award as the only Sri Lankan brand recognised as one of Asia’s Best Brands in 2013 by the Chief Marketing Officer’s Council (CMO Council) based in Mumbai, India. Brand Finance Lanka ranked Bank of Ceylon as the No.1 brand in Sri Lanka for the last six consecutive years. The BOC recorded yet another hat-trick in 2013 at the National Business Excellence awards ceremony organised by the National Chamber of Commerce. The Bank has achieved exceptional milestones in recent years by achieving rapid growth in recent years and currently holds over Rs. 1 trillion in assets. Focusing on the bank’s achievements, Fitch Rating Lanka ranked the BOC at AA+ (lka) which is the highest rating awarded to a local commercial bank. BOC is also the only Sri Lankan bank with an international presence, with branches in Chennai, Male, Seychelles and a subsidiary in London.
