The Bradby Fiesta carnival and after party organised to coincide with the second leg of the Bradby Shield encounter, scheduled for 3 June, has been postponed until further notice.

The Bradby Fiesta Committee has announced that it arrived at this decision after taking into consideration the devastation caused by the worst floods the county has seen in a decade, said Organizing Committee 2017 Chairman Boshan Dayaratne.

Before this calamity shocked the nation, the stage was all set for the grandest of the fiestas so far held, with a performance from a combination of local and foreign artistes, a tag rugby competition, a kids’ zone, hawker-style food with stalls from star-class hotels and restaurants and much more.

The devastating floods resulted in a rising death toll, with hundreds of people still missing and close to half a million people displaced, leading the organisers to reach this unanimous decision.

Instead of the festivities, the Bradby Fiesta Committee of 135 volunteers has decided to launch a flood relief campaign to arrange emergency supplies for those displaced and affected together with necessary items that are required for the commencement of their normal life.

For the purpose, special collection points will be set up at the Royal College Union office as well as the Royal College Sports Complex. The organisers call for the support of all Royalists and non-Royalists to lend a helping hand by any means possible to the citizens of this country affected by this disaster.

The committee extends its gratitude to the sponsors, various artistes and other stakeholders who partnered with them for Bradby Fiesta 2017, for their extended support and strength in making this difficult call.

Although this decision is going to cost the organisers the money already spent on pre-event arrangements, the union as responsible citizens of the country opted to rise to the occasion when the entire country was in distress and suffering.

Imagine Entertainment, which partnered the Bradby Fiesta 2017, has already announced that it is going to bear the cost of pre-event arrangements already made and further expressed its willingness to provide vehicles that are necessary to transport emergency supplies to flood victims.

The organisers have further announced that all tickets sold will be refunded if produced within two weeks from today, at the Royal College Union office at Reid Avenue and that the balance of the proceeds generated from ticket sales shall be utilised for flood relief.
