Brothers Malinda Madusanka and Manesh Malintha from St. Rita’s College, Thaldeka dominated the throwing events while Gateway’s Sadeepa Handerson went on to create a new record by winning the Under-15 Girls’ Long Jump event at the All-Island Schools Games held at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.
Madusanka won the Under-21 Boys’ Shot Put with a throw of 14.42 m while his brother Malintha stamped his class by winning in the Under-17 Boys’ Discus Throw with a throw of 53.12 m. Handerson won the Under-15 Girls’ Long Jump with a height of 5.32 m.
The Under-19 Boys’ Javelin Throw was won by Prasanna Ranawaka of Anamaduwa Central. Ranawaka hurled the javelin a distance of 60.05 m. Koshila Amarasinghe of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya cleared a height of 1.58 m to win the Under-17 Girls’ High Jump while Nimaya Somarathna of Newstead Girls’ College, Negombo won the Under-19 Girls’ Pole Vault with a jump of 2.90 m.

Under-21 Boys’ Shot Put: 1. Malinda Madusanka of St. Rita’s MV - 14.42m, Thaldeka, 2. ShashikaThamel of St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya – 13.15m, 3. SamithMadusanka of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa – 12.33m.
Under-15 Girls’ Long Jump: 1. Sadeepa Henderson of Gateway College, Colombo - 5.32 m, 2. SadiniKaveesha of Vijitha Vidyalaya - 5.28 m, 3. Siyana Wickramasinghe of Ladies’ College, Colombo - 5.15 m.
Under-17 Girls’ High Jump: 1. Koshila Amarasinghe of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya - 1.58 m, 2. Madubashini Perera of Taxila MMV, Horana – 1.55 m, 3. Chandrakumar Herina of Mahajana College, Jaffna – 1.5 m.
