Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka’s Petroleum Minister and the former Sri Lankan cricket skipper widely known as Captain Cool, made a symbolic return to the centre yesterday to kick off the sixth Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup in Colombo at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium (Oval). Arjuna played his last innings in August 2000 against South Africa at the SSC. A total of 12 teams will be taking part in Lawyers’ Cricket World Cup representing Sri Lanka, Australia, England, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and West Indies. The tournament will run till 20 August with the finals to be played at the SSC.
