Cargills (Ceylon) PLC stated that it was excited to be the strength behind two of the most prestigious clubs in the local rugby circuit in CR & FC and Kandy Sports Club this new season. Commenting on the partnership Head of Cargills Sports Rumaiz Rahim said “Cargills has been synonymous with youth development and we have in the recent past put our strength behind several national sporting events. The relationship with these two sporting clubs reinforces our commitment towards the development of youth and local talent particularly through sports”. Both teams are well prepared and will field formidable outfits for what is sure to be a keenly contested season, which all rugby fans can look forward to. Kandy Sports Club will be led by Sean Wijesinghe and CR & FC will be led by Ashan de Costa. Cargills’ commitment to the development of youth and talent through rugby doesn’t end with these two clubs, but extends to the Northern Gladiators team which participates in the Carlton Super Sevens rugby tournament. The Northern Gladiators led by Fazil Marija came out with flying colours in the 2014 edition of the tournament by becoming joint champions of the local tournament and being placed first runner-up in the international tournament. Rahim went on to say, “It is our fervent hope that strengthened by our support both CR & FC and Kandy Sports Club will put out an excellent performance in this year’s domestic rugby season. We wish both teams the best of luck.”
