Carlton Super Sevens 2014: Central Kings and Western Warriors stamp their class at Koggala

The Central Kings led by Rohitha Rajapaksa stamped their class defeating Uva Vipers by 31 points to 12 to remain undefeated leaders of pool A on day one of the Carlton Super Sevens 2014 rugby tournament which commenced in Koggala yesterday. The Western Warriors led by Rohitha’s elder brother Yoshitha were undefeated leaders of pool B overcoming the North Western Blacks by 31 points to 15.
Emori Waqavulagi of the Western Warriors scored eight tries while Emosi Melevero of the Central Kings scored seven.
In the morning session Uva Vipers defeated North Central Typhoons winners of the local tournament at Kurunegala by 17 points to nil, the Central Kings overcame the Eastern Eagles 24 points to 14, the Western Warriors won 19 points to 12 against the undefeated champions of the second leg of the local tournament held at Beliatta the Northern Gladiators while the Southern Sharks defeated the North Western Blacks 38 points to 5.
The Uva Vipers won their second game of the morning defeating the Sabaragmuwa Stallions by 24 points to 7. The North Central Typhoons made amends to their mornings defeat by overcoming the Eastern Eagles 26 points to 17. Yoshitha Rajapaksa led the Western Warriors to a 35 points to 7 win against the Jaffna Challengers. The Northern Gladiators suffered their second defeat at the hands of the Southern Sharks 24 points to 12.
The Central Kings, Uva Vipers, North Western Blacks and Western Warriors won their games against Sabaragamuwa Stallions 33 points to 12, Eastern Eagles by 33 points to 12, Jaffna Challengers 26 points to 7 and Southern Sharks by 26 points to nil respectively in the third session of the day. The Central Kings registered their third consecutive win defeating the North Central Typhoons by 12 points to 5. The Eastern Eagles registered their solitary win of the day by overcoming the Sabaragamuwa Stallions 24 points to five. The Northern Gladiators with two losses behind them proved their strength defeating the North Western Blacks 31 points to ten . The Southern Sharks ended the preliminary round on day one with a 17 points to ten win against the Jaffna Challengers.
The Sabaragamuwa Stallions suffered their fourth defeat of the day losing to the North Central Typhoons 19 points to 33 . The Jaffna Challengers led 14 points to 7 at half time but the Northern Gladiators drew the game at 21 points all.
