Carlton Super Sevens Second Leg: Outstanding rugby by Central Kings on day one

The strong Western Warriors outfit led by Yoshitha Rajapaakse met a shock defeat when they were edged out by strong Northern Gladiators 19-15 in a tensed battle on the opening day of the Carlton Super Sevens Second leg rugby tournament worked off at the Race Course Rugby grounds yesterday. At the time of going to press all other teams went through their winning ways in their group encounters. All three teams in Pool A namely Western Warriors, Uva Vipers and Northern Gladiators all lost one games and moved forward for their last game late evening.
In the other group Rohitha Rajapakse led Central kings were outstanding winning all their three games in the group stages. Southern Sharks and Central Kings game was the best for the day played under lights. For Central Kings Anurudha Wilwara and Nigel Ratwatte both playing for the Kandy Sports Club were in cracking form and look set for a final battle today. Meanwhile Western Warriors met their water loo when they were beaten by the Northern Gladiators in a closely contested battle. For Northern Gladiators Fazil Marija and David Halifornia and Dhanushka Ranjan were lightning fast. The battle looks heated up with Central Kings looking as the best side on day 1 of the competition. Dished out rugby was of very high standard with over 40 overseas players from the globe adding more color with their playing skills in the field along with the young local talent. Today matches will continue at the beautiful Race Course Rugby grounds with a packed house is expected with the kick-off is scheduled at 12 Noon.
