Commercial Credit & Finance (CCL) led by Anura Dias lifted the Governor’s Trophy for the second time, dethroning the Sanasa Development Bank (SDB), at the fourth version of the six-a-side cricket tournament organised by CRIB which was concluded at the P. Sara Oval on 4 September.
The finals were witnessed by the Governor of the Central Bank, the Chairman and Directors of CRIB and senior officials of banking and financial institutions.
The organisers successfully completed the first and second rounds of the tournament on 14 May and the finals were postponed due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing at times. A record number of 68 men’s teams and 36 women’s teams participated in the tournament.
CCL beat SDB by three wickets with two overs to spare in the Men’s Final; chasing a victory target of 60 runs. The match between the bankers and the non-banking financial institutions represented by CRIB compliance officers was played for the Chairman’s Trophy which was a new introduction to the tournament. The non-banking financial institutions led by Ushan Hapuarachchige, from HNB Grameen won the match by three runs.
Hatton National Bank (HNB) won the women’s tournament, beating the debutants, Alliance Finance (AFC) in the final.
In the men’s playoff for third place, Bank of Ceylon (BOC) beat Nations Trust Bank (NTB).
