Top tyre brand CEAT has been awarded title sponsor status for the 2014 championship of the Sri Lanka Auto-sports Drivers Association (SLADA) in recognition of the brand’s preeminent role as a corporate sponsor of local motorsports.
This is the second successive year that CEAT takes pole position in support of this event, and the fifth year overall that the brand plays title sponsor role at the apex year-end event to recognise champion racing drivers and riders in Sri Lanka.
Performances at seven major race meets -- the Sigiriya Rally Cross, Fox Hill Super Cross, Cavalry Super Cross, Gunners Super Cross, SLADA Rally, Gajaba Super Cross and Rotherham Katukurunda Circuit Meet will be considered for the 2014 CEAT SLADA Championship Awards, and the cream of the country’s racing drivers and riders will be honoured with four main and 12 supporting championship awards and at this gala event at the end of the season.
“CEAT’s support to motor racing in Sri Lanka is recognised as one of the stimulants behind the growth and development of the sport,” CEAT Kelani Managing Director and CEO Raman Rajagopalan said. “As a single brand which caters to half of Sri Lanka’s tyre requirements, CEAT is delighted to continue its association with motorsports in Sri Lanka in partnership with SLADA.”
SLADA President Yoga Perera said: “CEAT’s support has helped generate an exciting revival of motorsports in Sri Lanka, with improved participation of competitors, and greater engagement with spectators and the general public through our association with a brand that is a market leader and is closely linked with motoring.”
Established by a team of drivers, riders and officials to take motorsports in Sri Lanka to the next generation, SLADA has introduced the latest technology in timing and equipment to meet the demands of this rapidly changing sport. To ensure that race events are a success, the Association has nominee representatives from the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force on its executive committee, a first for any racing association in the country.
Besides its sponsorship of the CEAT SLADA Championship and its support to the race meets conducted by the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force, CEAT also fields its own racing team at many of these meets, supporting and encouraging individual drivers to improve on their performances.
CEAT Kelani Holdings also extended its partnership with the sport’s governing body Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) for the third successive year in 2014. As part of its partnership with SLAS, CEAT Kelani Holdings will be the principal sponsor of all Ford Laser/Mazda 1300cc and 1500cc ‘One Make’ racing events to be conducted during the year, at which all competing drivers will race on CEAT radial tyres.
A global tyre brand present in 110 countries and now headquartered in India, CEAT is an acronym that stands for Cavi Electrici Affini Torino, or Electrical Cables & Allied Products of Turin, with origins that date back to 1924 in Italy. CEAT is the highest selling radial tyre brand in Sri Lanka.
