Centurions Denver and Harshanth steal limelight at DPGC Challenge Trophy, MCA ‘E’ Division 30-Over L

Centurions Denver Faux from Softlogic Finance and Harshanth Rajendra from Unilever stole the lime light in the ongoing 14th David Pieris Group of Companies sponsored DPGC Challenge Trophy, MCA ‘E’ Division 30-Over League Tournament 2016.

Opening batsman Faux cracked a hurricane 134 runs in 61 balls, inclusive of 12 sixes and 10 fours, as Softlogic Finance crushed MAS Active ‘B’ by 104 runs. 

Middle order batsman, Harshanth Rajendra made a quick fire 103 runs in 52 balls, inclusive of 11 sixes and 04 fours, to hand over Unilever a handsome 54 runs win over Ansell Lanka.

Other notable batting performances came from Zakir Kanaka from Amana Takaful Insurance (99 not out vs. Gestetner), Gamini Fernando from John Keells ‘C’ (78 not out vs. Trellerborg) and Dhanushka Sandaruwan from Bimputh Finance (78 vs. LOLC).

Weekend’s bowling honours went to Amila Prabath from Brandix Essentials ‘B’ (4.3 – 11 – 05 vs. Eagle Logistics) and K.M. Ihalagama from Finlays (6-1-17-5 vs. Union Assurance).

This batch of matches saw the conclusion of the league stage of the tournament, completing 90 half-day matches; out of 36 teams, the following 16 teams qualified for the knock-out stage of the tournament: UB Finance, Astron Lanka & DFCC Bank from Group ‘A’ ; Mercantile Investments & Dialog Axiata ‘B’ from Group ‘B’; Unilever, AIA Insurance and Commercial Bank ‘B’ from Group ‘C’; Brandix Essentials ‘B’ , Softlogic Finance & J. Keells ‘C’ from Group ‘D’ ; Citizens Devp, Business & Regnis Lanka from Group ‘E’ & Lankem Ceylon , Toll Global & Nawaloka Group from Group ‘F’.
