A sporting event of national scale in terms of competitor numbers was worked off recently when Ceylinco Life conducted its annual sports festival.

Fun and spirited competition was the order of the day as some 4,000 competitors and spectators drawn from staff and sales professionals of the country’s leading life insurer descended into the sports field to demonstrate their all-round credentials at the eighth edition of this event.

Organised by the Ceylinco Life Sports Club, the event was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium – Diyagama, Homagama with the participation of representatives of 180 Ceylinco Life branches islandwide, with a strong presence from branches in the North and the East.

Friendly but keen competition among the 12 groups that were formed for the event culminated with the ‘WW’ group emerging victorious and the ‘MT’ group emerging runners-up. The Best Athlete at the event was from Galle.

The 12 groups vied for honours in Athletics including Track and Field Events, Football, Volleyball, Netball, Cricket, Tug-O-War, Fancy Dress Parade and fun games.

“Informal group events such as these which bring together members of the Ceylinco Life team from all over the country are essential to build camaraderie and team spirit,” Ceylinco Life Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan said. “The high participation even from areas such as the North and the East this year augurs well for the success of this team building initiative.”

Preliminary rounds for the eighth Ceylinco Life Sports Festival were conducted over three weekends prior to the final rounds held at Homagama.

Besides the Sports Festival the Ceylinco Life Sports Club also organises Christmas Carols, Cricket Tournaments, ‘Vesak Bakthi Gee’ and an ‘Avurudu Ulela.’
