Nestled along the pristine beaches of Trincomalee, Chaaya Blu Trincomalee hosted the fourth sailing regatta with the Royal Colombo Yacht Club gathering many sailors both young and old, for a three-day sailing and fun-filled event. The Navy Sailing Club’s W.M.C. Marambe, with A.S.K. Soysa as crew, sailed to victory in the Chaaya Blu Regatta and were presented with the trophy by Assistant Manager of Chaaya Blu Suresh Athukorala. Sailing an Enterprise dinghy, Marambe and Soysa narrowly beat Akshan Jirasinha and Devin Goonewardena to take the trophy in a strongly-contested race involving 18 boats on the water. The Navy’s J.M.P.L. Jayasooriya and K.C. Soysa took third place on the podium. Also in the race were three under-16 sailors in Optimist dinghies, with Akhil Jayewardene coming in first, followed by Jeremy De Mel and Marc Wilson, respectively. Radhika Jirasinha won the Laser class. The event was overseen by former Asian Games medallist Lalin Jirasinha, supported by the Sri Lanka Navy, and sailed in moderate winds over a series of four races.
