REUTERS: West Indies explosive batsman, Chris Gayle, on Friday (September 9) released his autobiography ‘Six Machine’ in New Delhi, sharing some interesting aspects of his life with the readers.
The tall left-hander, who scored 7,214 runs in 103 tests, played his last test against Bangladesh in 2014. But he plays T20 matches for the West Indies as well as domestic tournaments across the world.
Gayle said he hopes to inspire people who are going through a rough patch in their life through his book.
“My book will actually give you thorough insight of my childhood days. I hope my book can actually inspire a lot of people around the world. When things may be a bit tough and hard – in your hard days it is still possible – you are not going to actually give up hope. Most people really have not seen that side of Chris Gayle and I want to share these moments with each and everyone,” Gayle said in New Delhi.
The West Indies opener said that his low point in life was when he underwent a heart surgery in Australia a couple of years ago.
“When I did my heart surgery in Australia a couple of years ago that is when I said myself I want to live life to the fullest that particular time, that was my first ever surgery, when I got out of bed at that particular day I just cheated death from my point of view,” Gayle added.
Gayle is one of the most sought after players due to his explosive batting and ability to hit sixes at his will.
West Indies’ cricket fortunes have diverged in recent years, with the Twenty20 team winning the world championship in 2012 and 2016, while test performances have deteriorated sharply.
