Hosts of the tournament, Cinnamon Grand Colombo regained the City Five Star Hotels Finance Cricket ‘Sixes’ 2016 title, at the 3rd Annual Tournament held at Bloomfield Grounds last Saturday.
Cinnamon Grand Colombo led by Janudika Sriyapala beat its sister hotel, Cinnamon Lakeside, in the final.
The tournament was conducted with six teams pooled into two groups.
At completion of the league round, Cinnamon Lakeside finished on top of Group “A”, followed by Galadari Hotel (defending) and Hilton Colombo; Cinnamon Grand finished on top of Group “B”, followed by Cinnamon Hotels Management and Taj Samudra. (2015 runners-up)
In the knock out stage, Taj Samudra Hotel beat Hilton Colombo in the play off for fifth and sixth places.
Semi Finals: Cinnamon Lakeside beat Cinnamon Hotels Management and Cinnamon Grand beat Galadari Hotel.
In the play off for third and fourth places, Cinnamon Hotels Management beat Galadari Hotel.
Final: Cinnamon Grand beat Cinnamon Lakeside; Cinnamon Grand – 93 for 02 in 05 overs (Denuka Costa 52 not out, Suneth Jayamanne 1/24, Ishan Perera 1/14); Cinnamon Lakeside – 59 for 3 in 05 overs (Tariq Mohamed 27, J. Sriyapala 2/11, Rajeeve Michael 1/8)
Special Awards: Best Fielder, Rajeeve Michael; Best Batsman and Man of the Final – Denuka Costa; Best Bowler and Man of the Tournament Janudika Sriyapala all from Cinnamon Grand Colombo.
