The Cinnamon Grand rugby team emerged Cup runners-up at the recently held John Keells Inter-Company Rugby 7’s 2016, while Cinnamon Red became runners-up in the Bowl category.

Held on 1 October at CR&FC, the hotels competed against 13 strong teams to gain these titles.

After a series of wins, Cinnamon Grand faced the John Keells Office Automation (JKOA) team in the finals but failed to generate the same winning momentum, finishing runners-up.

However, their supporters, over 400 Cinnamon Grand associates, cheered the team and gave them a winners’ reception after the game. The team was captained by E.A.M.P. Pradeep and consisted of W.H.I. Silva, J.K.H. Perera, K.G.D.M. Pramodha, B.G.P.P. Jayasinghe, K.G.N. Kumara, N.H. Maduranga, U.W.C. Chanaka, R.S. Prince Chamara, Shamal Weerasekera, W.P.L.P. Perera and A.S. Priyadarshana.

The Cinnamon Red team, which finished runners-up in the Bowl category, was captained by Dinesh Supramaniam. The players were Radeesha Senevirathna, Susitha Padmakumara, Lahiru Bandara, Fazlan Faiz, Suneth De Silva, Aathif Jawarth, Tharinda Ratwatte, Kumuthan Mariapillai, Shahin Ahamed, Pasan Wijewardana, Dilim Wijesekera and Ryan Victoria

Cinnamon’s city hotels chose the theme ‘Caribbean Rave’ to ensure that associates of the three city properties – Cinnamon Grand, Cinnamon Lakeside and Cinnamon Red – had an enjoyable day with plenty of great rugby, camaraderie, food, fun and music. Prizes were given to the best dressed as Caribbean King and Queen as well as for a fire limbo competition held at the property level. Over 700 associates from the city properties took part in the festivities.
