Cinnamon Grand holds Inter-departmental Swimming Gala

Cinnamon Grand’s inaugural Inter-departmental Swimming Gala was held at the Thurstan pool on Saturday, 10 May with the participation of more than 100 swimming enthusiasts from the different departments of the hotel.
The event was organised to provide associates’ a fun day of competitive swimming and camaraderie. It also served as a platform to showcase their talents whilst providing them with an opportunity to hone their skills for future competitions.
Sales & Marketing, Kitchen, Housekeeping, Angsana, F&B Services, Finance, Human Resource, Laundry, Front Office and Security Departments, put forward squads, to represent different age categories and aquatic abilities at the event.
In keeping with the Cinnamon Grand’s philosophy of working and playing hard, the hotel also obtained the services of top notch record breaking, Sri Lankan swimmer, coach and former Cinnamon Grand associate Edward Vandendriezen to train the enthusiastic participants, four weeks prior to the event.
The overall championship trophy was won by the Kitchen Department’s swimming squad. Angsana Club and the Finance Department teams were placed second and third, based on the points garnered.
The men’s category, overall championship winners were; Nicole De Silva – Kitchen Department (Under 25 years), K.W.D. Darshana F&B (25-35 years), Y. Karunarathne – Finance (35-45 years) and C.J. Rajapakse of Angsana Club (45+years).
In the women’s category Amanda Rodrigo won the overall championship (under 25 years).
Winners received trophies, medals and certificates from General Manager Rohan Karr.
“Well done to all of you who took part and thank you to all the swimmers and the sports committee staff who helped to organise the event. There’s one more sporting event now on our sports calendar. Next year I hope to see more associates taking on the swimming challenge,” he said.
