Cinnamon Grand Inter Department Cricket Sixes 2014

Over 600 Cinnamon Grand associates gathered at the BRC Grounds on Saturday 15 November for a fun-filled day of cricket, good cheer and family spirit. 180 associates donned their cricketing gear, leaving aside their uniforms for the day; and in 30 teams departments’ competed neck-to-neck, vying to take home the championship trophies (men/women) at the annual Inter Department Cricket Sixes. Housekeeping Super Kings (B Team) took home the Men’s Sixes Championship Trophy after a fierce match against Angsana Pain Killers. F&B Avengers beat Sales Force at the finals to emerge as Women’s Sixes Champions. Kelum Dissanayake from Housekeeping Super Kings won the coveted Man of the tournament title, while Aruna Jayathissa also from Housekeeping Super Kings won Man of the final. Woman of the tournament was won by Rasika Edirisinghe from F&B Avengers, while Madu Samarasinghe took home Woman of the Final. Ramesh Peiris from Angsana Pain Killers was awarded Best Batsman of the Tournament, Dinesh Pathirage from Housekeeping Super Kings, Best Bowler of the Tournament and Heshan Jayathilake from Kitchen Culinary Champs, the Best Fielder of the Tournament. The five-over game, saw 25 men’s teams and five women’s team competing in a series of matches, while those gathered enjoyed the fun games and activities at the Cricket Carnival, organised to make the day an enjoyable and memorable one for the Cinnamon Grand family. The kitchen brigade laid out a special buffet spread this year, in true five-star spirit. A highlight was the special GM’s Trophy given to the winners of the exhibition match. Last year’s winners Watch Guard Security Team repeated their feat, with a spectacular win against Walkers Tours. At the end of the fun-filled, action packed evening, Cinnamon City Hotels Sector Head Rohan Karr noted that it was not the cricket that won the day, but the team spirit and the Cinnamon Grand sprit. “It has been a fantastic day. Thank you for playing the game in the true spirit of Cinnamon Grand and family.
